The Humanitarian Club at Texila American University Zambia (TAUZ) carried out a successful Hypertension Awareness Campaign at UCZ Gideon Congregation in Lilayi, offering free blood pressure checks and health education to community members.
The campaign, held over the weekend, was aimed at raising awareness about the dangers of high blood pressure and promoting healthier lifestyles in underserved communities. The activity was supported by qualified medical doctors from the university’s faculty, who accompanied the students to ensure accurate assessments and provide professional medical advice.
Members of the Lilayi community turned up in numbers, with many benefiting from free health checks and personalized guidance on diet, exercise, and the importance of regular medical screenings.
Speaking during the outreach, Humanitarian Club President Gaudencia Nghiitwikwa said the campaign was part of the club’s ongoing commitment to community health.
“Hypertension is often referred to as a silent killer because many people live with it unknowingly. Through this campaign, we wanted to bring free, basic health services directly to the people while educating them on prevention and management,” she explained.
She further added,
“We are grateful to the medical faculty members who supported us and to UCZ Gideon Congregation for opening their doors to this noble cause. As students, we are proud to use our knowledge and skills to make a real difference in the lives of others.”
The campaign received a warm welcome from both the church leadership and community residents, who encouraged the students to continue conducting such impactful initiatives in the future.
Texila American University Zambia continues to empower its students not just academically, but also through community service and public health advocacy, fostering a generation of compassionate healthcare professionals committed to societal transformation.
