Texila American University Zambia (TAUZ) joined the global community in commemorating International Yoga Day with a special session held at the Lilayi Campus for both staff and students. The event, which took place under the theme of promoting holistic health and wellness, was led by enthusiastic pupils from the Indian School of Lusaka, who guided participants through a series of yoga postures and breathing exercises.
Before the physical session, a thought-provoking address was delivered by Dr. Chimuka Mwaanga, faculty member from the School of Medicine, who emphasized the relevance of yoga and physical fitness in the context of modern health challenges.
“As future healthcare professionals and leaders, it’s vital that we understand the link between physical health, mental well-being, and lifestyle choices,” said Dr. Mwaanga. “Yoga is not just about flexibility or poses—it is about discipline, mindfulness, and self-awareness. It supports cardiovascular health, reduces stress, and improves overall mental clarity.”
The session was also graced by the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Ajay Poddar, who applauded the collaborative spirit between TAUZ and the Indian School of Lusaka and encouraged continued student involvement in activities that support wellness and personal development.
“At Texila, we are committed to nurturing not just intellectual growth but also emotional and physical wellness,” Prof. Poddar said. “Today’s celebration is a reminder that education goes hand-in-hand with health, and yoga gives us a path to balance both.”
The event concluded with a brief reflection by participants, many of whom expressed appreciation for the practical experience and the opportunity to engage in something meaningful outside of the lecture theatre.
