A team of medical students pursuing the MBChB programme at Texila American University Zambia (TAUZ) embarked on an educational tour at health facilities in Lusaka’s Shantumba area, gaining firsthand exposure to clinical practice and community healthcare delivery.
Coordinated by lecturer Mr. Elvin Mfuzi, the visit was designed to bridge the gap between classroom learning and practical experience. During the tour, students observed medical procedures, interacted with patients, and engaged with healthcare professionals, gaining insight into the day-to-day operations of health facilities in the community and the challenges of providing effective healthcare at the grassroots level.
“This educational tour is crucial for our students as it allows them to apply theoretical knowledge in real-world settings,” said Mr. Mfuzi. “It strengthens their practical skills, deepens their understanding of patient care, and highlights the importance of community-based healthcare.”
The initiative also aimed to instill a sense of social responsibility among students, encouraging them to actively contribute to improving healthcare delivery across Zambia. Exposure to diverse medical cases and community health challenges ensures that future doctors are well-equipped to serve patients effectively, both technically and ethically. Through such experiential learning programmes, TAUZ continues to advance the quality of medical education it offers, preparing its students not just academically but also practically, to make a meaningful impact in Zambia’s healthcare sector.
