Texila American University Zambia (TAUZ) has welcomed new students enrolled in the Health Professions Foundation Programme (HPFP) and Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBChB) programmes during an orientation programme designed to prepare them for their academic journey and university life.
The orientation was graced by the presence of Vice Chancellor Dr Balamurugan Easwaran, Registrar Ms Suguna Subbraji, Dean of the School of Medicine Dr Amit Singh, and Assistant Dean of Student Affairs Dr Naveen Kumar.
The programme provided an opportunity for the new students to familiarise themselves with the university’s academic environment, institutional policies, administrative procedures and support services available throughout their studies.
During the orientation, students were introduced to key aspects of university administration, including registration procedures, academic expectations, student affairs, communication channels and the processes for accessing administrative assistance. They were also guided on the importance of discipline, professionalism, personal responsibility and adherence to university regulations.
The engagement further helped students understand the roles of various university departments and the support available to help them navigate their academic responsibilities and personal development. Particular emphasis was placed on encouraging students to seek assistance whenever they encounter challenges and to maintain open communication with the relevant university offices.
For students pursuing medicine, the transition into university life marks an important step towards a demanding profession that requires academic commitment, ethical conduct, compassion and a strong sense of responsibility.
The presence of the university’s senior leadership underscored the institution’s commitment to welcoming new students and ensuring they understand the expectations, resources and support systems available to them from the beginning of their studies.
As the freshers embark on their respective programmes, TAUZ encourages them to embrace the learning experience, actively participate in university activities and uphold the values of professionalism, integrity and excellence as they prepare for future careers in healthcare.
The orientation programme forms part of the university’s efforts to facilitate a smooth transition into higher education and equip students with the information and guidance needed to begin their academic journey with confidence.
