Texila American University Zambia (TAUZ) has hosted an induction ceremony for its graduating Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBChB) students, marking an important milestone as the future doctors prepare to transition into professional medical practice.
The ceremony brought together university leadership, government representatives, medical professionals and other stakeholders to recognise the students’ academic journey and reaffirm their commitment to the medical profession.
The event was officiated by the Ministry of Health Permanent Secretary, Dr Kennedy Lishimpi, who was represented by the Director for Quality Improvement, Dr Godfrey Phiri.
The ceremony was also attended by National Forensic Authority (NFA) Executive Director, Brigadier General Professor Lawson Simapuka; Zambia Medical Association (ZMA) General Secretary, Dr Innocent Ngwira; and ZMA Chairperson for the Medical Education and Research Board, Dr Mwila Mulenga.
A key highlight of the ceremony was the administration of the Hippocratic Oath, during which the graduating students made a solemn commitment to uphold the principles and responsibilities of the medical profession and to place the wellbeing of patients at the centre of their practice.
The induction marked more than the completion of an academic programme. It represented the students’ transition towards a profession founded on ethical conduct, compassion, professionalism and a commitment to improving the health and wellbeing of communities.
Speaking during the event, the various leaders and representatives emphasised the responsibility that comes with joining the medical profession and encouraged the graduating students to uphold the values of integrity, lifelong learning and quality patient care.
The ceremony provided a significant moment for the graduating MBChB students as they prepare to take the next step in their professional journeys and contribute to Zambia’s healthcare system.
