Texila American University Zambia (TAUZ) successfully conducted teacher engagement workshops in the Livingstone and Choma districts, equipping educators with essential knowledge on mental health and communicable diseases as part of the university’s ongoing commitment to community outreach and public health promotion.
The interactive workshops were facilitated by Mr. Elvin Mufuzi, Lecturer in the School of Public Health, who led practical and informative sessions focusing on mental health awareness, emotional well-being, communicable disease prevention, and the critical role teachers play in promoting healthy school environments.
During the sessions, Mr. Mufuzi emphasized the importance of early identification of mental health challenges among learners, encouraging teachers to create supportive environments that foster emotional well-being while promoting timely intervention and referral where necessary. He also highlighted practical measures for preventing the spread of communicable diseases in schools, stressing that informed educators are key to building healthier communities.
Teachers actively participated in the discussions, sharing their experiences, raising questions on health-related challenges affecting schools, and exchanging ideas on effective ways to support learners. Participants expressed appreciation to Texila American University Zambia for bringing the workshops to their districts and providing free, life-saving health education that will enable them to better respond to the needs of their learners.
In addition to the health awareness sessions, the Texila team introduced participants to Texila Academy, the university’s free online learning platform that provides secondary school learners with quality educational resources to support their examination preparation. Teachers were encouraged to recommend the platform to their learners as a valuable academic resource.
The team also showcased the wide range of academic programmes offered by Texila American University Zambia, highlighting opportunities available in the Schools of Medicine, Public Health, Business and Information Technology, as well as the university’s flexible learning pathways and commitment to producing globally competitive graduates.
