Texila American University Zambia (TAUZ) has successfully held a White Coat Ceremony for the September 2025 Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBChB) cohort at Cheryl Gardens in Lusaka, marking a significant milestone in the students’ journey into the medical profession.
The ceremony symbolised the formal induction of the medical students into clinical training and the noble calling of medicine, emphasising professionalism, ethics, and commitment to patient care.
Speaking during the event, TAUZ Deputy Vice Chancellor, Dr. Balamurugan Easwaran, congratulated the students on reaching this important stage of their training and reminded them of the responsibility that comes with wearing the white coat. He noted that the white coat is not merely a uniform, but a symbol of trust, discipline, and service to humanity. Dr. Easwaran urged the students to uphold ethical standards, compassion, and lifelong learning as they progress in their medical careers, adding that TAUZ remains committed to producing competent and globally competitive medical professionals.
The ceremony was graced by distinguished guests from the health sector, including Dr. Charles Mutemba, Senior Superintendent at Levy Mwanawasa Hospital; Dr. Paul Chibwe, President of the Resident Doctors Association of Zambia (RDAZ); and Mr. Komaki Lungu, Senior Training and Examination Officer at the Health Professions Council of Zambia (HPCZ). The guests encouraged the students to embrace teamwork, professionalism, and resilience as they transition into clinical practice.
A key highlight of the event was the administration of the medical oath, which was led by the Dean of the School of Medicine, Dr. Amit Singh. Through the oath, the students pledged to uphold the highest standards of medical ethics, respect human life, and commit themselves to the service of patients and society. The White Coat Ceremony reaffirmed TAUZ’s dedication to quality medical education and its mission to nurture future doctors who are ethically grounded, clinically competent, and committed to making a positive impact in the healthcare sector.
