A team of ten students from Texila American University Zambia (TAUZ), under the banner of the institution’s Humanitarian Club, successfully carried out a Winter Drive Donation at the Makeni Refugee Transit Camp in Lusaka. The initiative brought warmth and hope to refugee families as the students donated clothes to children and adults in preparation for the cold season.
The students were warmly welcomed by a large number of residents and officials from the Office of the Commissioner for Refugees. The atmosphere was filled with gratitude and connection, as the Texila students took time to engage with the refugee children and their families through heartfelt conversations and shared moments.
Karabo Zulu, Vice President of the Humanitarian Club, expressed deep appreciation for the opportunity to serve.
“This donation was not just about providing clothes — it was about showing solidarity and letting these families know that they are not forgotten,” she said. “We were touched by the resilience and warmth of the community. It was truly a humbling experience.”
Karabo further encouraged more students to get involved in community outreach initiatives, saying, “Every small act of kindness can spark hope. As young people, we have a role to play in creating a more compassionate society.”
Officials from the Office of the Commissioner for Refugees praised the students for their empathy and initiative, noting that such gestures contribute significantly to the well-being of displaced communities.
The clothing items were collected through a donation drive on campus, reflecting the strong spirit of generosity among the Texila student body.
