Texila American University Zambia (TAUZ) and the Clinical Officers’ Association of Zambia (COAZ) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at strengthening collaboration in education, professional development and research within the health sector.
Under the agreement, TAUZ will offer special tuition discounts to clinical officers and their immediate family members, provide access to short professional programmes, and work closely with COAZ in collaborative research initiatives that support evidence-based healthcare delivery in Zambia.
Speaking during the signing ceremony, Acting Vice Chancellor of TAUZ, Dr Balamurugan Easwaran, said the partnership reflects the university’s commitment to working with professional bodies to build human capital in the health sector. He noted that TAUZ values practice-oriented collaborations and is keen to ensure that health professionals have access to quality, flexible and affordable education.
COAZ President, Dr Jones Neba, welcomed the partnership and described it as timely and beneficial to clinical officers across the country. He said the MoU will enhance skills development, academic progression and research opportunities for COAZ members, while also contributing to improved service delivery in the health system.
Providing an overview of the partnership, Dean, School of Public Health, Prof Patrick Chanda, outlined the key areas of collaboration, including academic progression pathways, short courses tailored to clinical officers, continuous professional development, and joint research activities. He emphasized that the partnership is structured to be practical, impactful and mutually beneficial. Delivering the vote of thanks, Dean, School of Medicine, Dr Amit Singh, expressed appreciation to both institutions for the spirit of collaboration and teamwork demonstrated throughout the engagement process.
