Medical students pursuing the MBChB programme at Texila American University Zambia (TAUZ) participated in an educational tour at Zimba Mission Hospital in Southern Province, gaining invaluable hands-on exposure to clinical practice and community healthcare delivery.
The tour, coordinated by lecturer from the School of Public Health, Mr. Elvin Mfuzi, was designed to complement classroom learning by providing students with practical experience in a real hospital setting. During the visit, students had the opportunity to observe medical procedures, engage with patients, and interact with healthcare professionals, gaining insight into the day-to-day operations of a mission hospital and the challenges of providing healthcare in a community setting.
“This educational programme allows our students to connect classroom theory with real-world clinical practice,” said Mr. Mfuzi. “It equips them with practical skills, strengthens their understanding of patient care, and fosters an appreciation for the role of community healthcare delivery in improving lives.”
The initiative also aimed to inspire a sense of social responsibility among students, encouraging them to contribute meaningfully to healthcare delivery across Zambia. By exposing students to diverse medical cases and community health challenges, the programme ensures that future doctors are well-prepared, both technically and ethically, to serve communities effectively.
Through such experiential learning initiatives, TAUZ continues to enhance the quality of medical education it offers, ensuring that its students graduate not only with strong theoretical knowledge but also with the practical skills and real-world experience necessary to make a lasting impact in Zambia’s healthcare sector.
