Texila American University Zambia (TAUZ), in collaboration with the National Blood Transfusion Services (NBTS), successfully hosted a Blood Donation Drive that brought together students, staff, and faculty members in a remarkable demonstration of compassion, unity, and social responsibility.
The initiative attracted an overwhelming response from the University community, with many volunteers stepping forward to donate blood in support of patients requiring lifesaving transfusions. The donations will contribute to strengthening Zambia’s national blood supply and ensuring that health facilities have adequate blood stocks to meet the growing demand.
Speaking during the event, Deputy Vice Chancellor, Dr. Balamurugan Easwaran, commended the Medical Club and all participants for championing a cause that has a direct impact on saving lives.
“This blood donation drive is more than just a health campaign; it is a practical lesson in compassion, responsibility, and service to humanity. We are pleased that our students, through the Medical Club, are at the centre of organising and participating in such noble initiatives. It is important for future healthcare professionals to develop these values early in their medical careers, because being a medical practitioner is not only about acquiring knowledge and clinical skills, but also about understanding the importance of empathy, selflessness, and giving back to society,” said Dr. Easwaran.
The Deputy Vice Chancellor further reaffirmed the University’s commitment to producing graduates who are not only academically competent but also socially responsible professionals dedicated to improving the wellbeing of communities.
Officials from the National Blood Transfusion Services expressed appreciation to Texila American University Zambia for partnering in the initiative and praised the enthusiasm shown by students and staff in supporting the national effort to maintain adequate blood reserves.
The Blood Donation Drive forms part of TAUZ’s ongoing commitment to community engagement and public health initiatives, while providing students with opportunities to translate classroom learning into meaningful service that positively impacts society.
