Management is the act of getting people together to achieve desired goals and objectives using available resources efficiently and effectively. For effective management, leaders need to have the vision, competence, skills and knowledge to inspire and lead.
Today, leaders need to teach and guide. Leadership and management is no longer the work of a single individual but the performance of a team.
With the goal to promote awareness on the changing landscape of global management methods and techniques, at Texila American University, Zambia we organized an activity as a part of our monthly talk series. Mr.Justin Kangwa of Sunrise Consult, honoured the event as the chief guest, and educated an enthusiastic audience on new-age management methods and techniques.
Texila Knowledge Talk Series: The Event
As a part of TAU Zambia’s monthly activity, Texila Knowledge Talk Series hosted a talk session on “Management through Modern Tools and Techniques” on 31st July 2018. We were a privilege to have Mr. Justin Kangwa, Managing Consultant and CEO, Sunrise Consult, Lusaka-Zambia as our chief guest and share his knowledge and expertise on management skills and techniques with the participants. The talk provided a common platform for different stakeholders to share their views on effective management and leadership skills.
Speaker Mr. Justin Kangwa on Management: Key Highlights
Mr. Justin Kangwa spoke about management, expectations of employees and current methods of management. Some of the points he emphasized for effective management are:
- Organizations should have a two-way feedback mechanism
- Managers should promote an environment for mutual learning and growth
- Managers should lead the culture change in the organization
- Managers should promote diversity in age, culture, religion, and gender in the organization.
- Managers should encourage their employees to think and innovate
He concluded by saying that managers should lead the way and their actions should set an example for their employees. so that they feel motivated and inspired to give their best.
The event came to an end with a ‘Vote of Thanks’ by Prof. Sunil Verma, Convener, Texila Knowledge Talk Series. He expressed his gratitude to everyone for making the talk session successful with their presence, participation, and enthusiasm. Finally, before the event concluded, Prof. Poddar felicitated the chief guest with memento marking the event as a memorable one.
