Texila American University Zambia (TAUZ) held a special celebration for its staff and faculty members to commemorate Zambia’s 60th Independence Anniversary. The event was a perfect blend of reflection, fun, and unity, bringing together the university’s workforce to honor this important milestone in the nation’s history.
The celebration began with a talk on Zambia’s walk to independence, delivered by Prof. Patrick Chanda, Dean of the School of Public Health. Prof. Chanda took the audience on a historical journey, detailing the struggles and sacrifices made by Zambia’s freedom fighters. His presentation was both enlightening and inspiring, reminding staff and faculty of the significance of this hard-earned freedom and the role everyone plays in continuing the legacy of progress.
Following this, the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Ajay Poddar, gave an inspiring address on the importance of independence. He highlighted the values of self-determination, unity, and national pride that underpin Zambia’s success since gaining freedom. Prof. Poddar encouraged the staff to reflect on the progress the nation has made and how everyone can contribute towards building a better future for Zambia.
After the speeches, the event transitioned into a series of fun games designed to strengthen teamwork and camaraderie among the staff and faculty. The lively atmosphere was filled with laughter and friendly competition as employees actively engaged in the activities, fostering a strong sense of community.
The celebration concluded with a shared meal, where staff members came together to enjoy traditional dishes. This moment of togetherness embodied the spirit of unity that Independence Day represents, leaving everyone with a sense of pride and belonging.
