The Student Representative Council (SRC) at Texila American University Zambia (TAUZ) recently hosted a transformative Mental Health Seminar under the theme “It’s Okay to Not Be Okay” at the Lilayi Campus. The seminar aimed to raise awareness and equip students with essential knowledge and tools to manage mental health challenges effectively.
The event featured distinguished mental health specialists from leading institutions who shared invaluable insights into topics such as coping mechanisms, self-care practices, and the importance of seeking help when navigating emotional struggles. Their expertise provided students with actionable advice, empowering them to better understand and manage their mental health.
Aquila Chilanga, the SRC President, expressed pride in his team for spearheading such a crucial initiative, stating, “I am proud of our SRC team for organizing this seminar. It has empowered our students with knowledge that goes beyond the classroom and into everyday life.”
In addition to expert-led sessions, the seminar included dynamic debate sessions that encouraged open dialogue and thoughtful discussions on mental health issues. These debates provided a platform for students to express their views, share personal experiences, and explore solutions collaboratively, fostering a supportive and inclusive environment.
The seminar not only raised awareness but also worked to break down the stigma surrounding mental health, emphasizing that it is normal to experience challenges and seek help. By organizing events like this, TAUZ and its SRC demonstrate a commitment to holistic student well-being, ensuring that mental health remains a priority alongside academic success.
