The Higher Education Authority (HEA) of Zambia has named Texila American University Zambia among the select group of universities classified to offer Doctorates, placing it in the prestigious ZQF 10 category. This classification was published in the Government Gazette No. 7638, Vol. LX, No. 103, dated Friday, 6th September 2024, under Gazette Notice No. 944 of 2024. The classification list was based on evaluations as of 31st March 2024.
According to the HEA, “Classification of universities places the universities in tiers which describe the level of education each university is allowed to offer under the Zambia Qualifications Framework (ZQF).” There are four tiers of classification:
- ZQF 10 – Only universities classified in this category can offer programs up to the Doctorate level. Texila American University Zambia is proud to be one of the 14 universities that have been gazetted in this tier.
- ZQF 9 – Universities in this category are authorized to offer programs up to the Master’s level. 23 universities are classified at this level, comprising 20 private and 3 public institutions.
- ZQF 8 – Institutions in this category can offer up to Postgraduate Diplomas. All 10 universities classified here are private.
- ZQF 7 – Universities in this category can offer up to Bachelor’s degree programs. A total of 14 universities are classified in this tier, with 12 private and 2 public universities included.
This recognition underscores Texila American University Zambia’s commitment to delivering high-quality education and its status as one of the top institutions authorized to provide Doctoral programs in Zambia. The classification affirms the university’s infrastructure, academic standards, and capacity to contribute to advanced research and knowledge creation in the country.
