Medical students from Texila American University Zambia (TAUZ) recently participated in a familiarisation tour of the National Heart Hospital in Lusaka. This initiative aimed to provide students with firsthand experience and deeper insights into the operations of a leading cardiac care facility in the country.
The tour included an overview of the hospital’s advanced medical technologies, specialized departments, and patient care protocols. Students had the opportunity to observe the daily routines of healthcare professionals, gaining a better understanding of the practical applications of their studies in a real-world medical environment.
Dr Amit Singh , dean of the School of Medicine at TAUZ, remarked, “This tour is an invaluable component of our student’s education. It bridges the gap between theoretical knowledge and practical application, preparing them for their future roles as healthcare providers.”
Students were guided through various sections of the hospital, including the cardiac intensive care unit, diagnostic imaging department, and surgical theatres. They also interacted with the hospital staff, who shared their experiences and insights on working in a high-pressure medical setting.
One of the participating students, Blessings Sakambwa, shared his enthusiasm, saying, “The tour was incredibly enlightening. It was inspiring to see the dedication and expertise of the medical professionals at the National Heart Hospital. This experience has reaffirmed my commitment to pursuing a career in cardiology.”
The familiarisation tour is part of TAUZ’s commitment to providing its medical students with comprehensive, hands-on learning experiences. By exposing students to leading healthcare facilities, TAUZ aims to enhance their clinical skills and prepare them for successful careers in medicine.
