In a commendable act of community service, students from Texila American University Zambia (TAU Zambia), through their Humanitarian Society, donated menstrual sanitary materials to Kamulanga Secondary School in Lusaka.
This initiative aimed to support female pupils by providing essential hygiene products and raising awareness about menstrual health.
The handover event, which took place at the school premises, was officiated by Lusaka District Commissioner, Ms. Rosa Zulu. The event was also graced by a representative from the District Education Board Secretary’s office, along with local leaders.
Ms. Zulu, in her speech, lauded the students of Texila American University Zambia for their thoughtful contribution and highlighted the importance of such initiatives in promoting the well-being and education of young girls.
She emphasized that menstrual hygiene management is crucial for the health and dignity of girls and women and that providing sanitary materials can help reduce absenteeism among female students.
The representative from the District Education Board Secretary’s office also expressed gratitude towards the university students and underscored the need for continued collaboration between educational institutions and the community to address various social challenges.
In addition to the donation, the students from Texila American University Zambia presented gifts to the pupils.
The event was further enlivened by a series of entertaining performances from the pupils of Kamulanga Secondary School, including songs, dances, and drama skits that showcased their talents and cultural heritage.
The Humanitarian Society of Texila American University Zambia has been actively involved in various community service projects, and this recent donation is part of their ongoing efforts to make a positive impact in the society.
The event concluded with a vote of thanks from the school’s headteacher, who expressed deep appreciation to Texila American University Zambia and the Humanitarian Society for their generosity and commitment to supporting the school and its students.
