The concept of guidance and counseling has deep historical roots, dating back to the earliest civilizations where individuals sought assistance from various sources when faced with uncertainty or challenges. From ancient fortune tellers to philosophers like Plato and Aristotle, and educators like Johann Pestalozzi, guidance has been an integral part of human existence. However, despite the evolution of guidance and counseling theories and practices, there remains a significant gap in providing effective career guidance, particularly in Nigeria. This gap has left Nigerian adolescents vulnerable to unemployment, leading to various deviant behaviors such as cybercrimes, suicide bombing, militancy, and others. Addressing this issue requires a comprehensive review and enhancement of career guidance on public health and counseling curriculum along with implementation strategies.
